How Supply and Demand Shape a Coin

“Tokenomics” is a blend of “token” and “economics”: the study of how a cryptocurrency is designed and what drives its value. A project can have great technology and still fail if its tokenomics are broken — so it is one of the most important things to understand before forming a view on any coin.

Supply

Start with supply. Is it capped (like Bitcoin’s 21 million) or unlimited? How much is circulating now versus locked or not yet issued? A low price can be misleading if a huge amount of supply is due to unlock and hit the market later, diluting existing holders.

Distribution

Who holds the tokens? A coin where a few insiders or early investors control most of the supply carries concentration risk — they can move the price or sell into holders. Fairer, wider distribution is generally healthier. Vesting schedules (which release insider tokens gradually) are worth checking too.

Utility and incentives

What is the token actually for? Paying network fees, securing the chain through staking, governance voting, or simply speculation? Tokens with genuine, growing usage have a demand story beyond hype. Watch for “emissions” — new tokens printed to reward users — which can quietly outpace demand and push the price down.

The takeaway

Good questions beat good vibes: what is the supply, who holds it, and why would anyone need the token?
