Über BNB
BNB is the native token of the BNB Chain ecosystem, launched by the exchange Binance in 2017. It began as a utility token for discounted trading fees on Binance and grew into the fuel for BNB Smart Chain, a fast, low-cost network that hosts a large ecosystem of decentralised apps, tokens and DeFi. BNB is used to pay gas on that chain, and Binance runs periodic "burns" that permanently remove tokens from supply.
BNB’s fortunes are closely tied to Binance, the world’s largest crypto exchange, and to BNB Chain activity.
