About Bitcoin Cash

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) is a cryptocurrency created in 2017 through a "fork" — a split — of the Bitcoin blockchain. The disagreement was about how Bitcoin should scale: supporters of Bitcoin Cash wanted larger blocks so the network could handle more transactions and act more like everyday electronic cash, with lower fees. BCH shares much of Bitcoin’s design, including proof-of-work and a 21-million-style supply cap, but with those larger blocks.

Bitcoin Cash positions itself as peer-to-peer digital cash for payments, and it has a dedicated community. In practice it has far less value, liquidity and network security than Bitcoin, and the "digital cash" niche is also contested by stablecoins and faster networks. BCH is a volatile, high-risk asset.

First Light on Bitcoin Cash (BCH)
What’s happening

Bitcoin Cash is a 2017 fork of Bitcoin with larger blocks, aimed at cheaper, higher-volume payments. It shares Bitcoin’s proof-of-work design but is a separate, smaller network.

Why it matters

Bitcoin Cash’s pitch is everyday digital cash. The watch-item is whether that niche holds up against Bitcoin’s brand, stablecoins and faster chains. Lower fees, but far less value and security than Bitcoin. BCH is volatile and high-risk.
