About XRP
XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger, a blockchain launched in 2012 and closely associated with the company Ripple. It was designed for fast, cheap value transfer — transactions settle in seconds for a fraction of a penny — with a particular focus on cross-border payments and moving money between financial institutions. Unlike proof-of-work coins, the XRP Ledger uses a consensus process among a set of validators rather than mining.
XRP’s story has been shaped by law as much as technology: Ripple spent years in a high-profile case with the US Securities and Exchange Commission over whether XRP sales counted as unregistered securities, an issue that heavily influenced its price and availability. A large portion of XRP supply is held by Ripple and released over time, which some see as useful funding and others as a concentration concern. It is a volatile, high-risk asset with a distinctive regulatory backdrop.

XRP is the token of the XRP Ledger, built for fast, low-cost payments and settlement between institutions. It uses validator consensus rather than mining, and much of its supply is held and released by Ripple over time.
XRP’s value has long tracked regulation and adoption for payments. The watch-items are legal clarity, whether real institutional payment volume materialises, and how Ripple manages its large holdings. Utility for cross-border transfers is the bull case; regulatory uncertainty and supply concentration are the risks. Volatile and high-risk.
