About Litecoin

Litecoin (LTC) is one of the oldest cryptocurrencies, created in 2011 by Charlie Lee as a "lighter" companion to Bitcoin. Technically it is very similar — a proof-of-work coin with a public ledger — but tuned for faster, cheaper payments, with blocks roughly every two and a half minutes and a larger supply cap of 84 million coins. It has long positioned itself as digital money for everyday transactions rather than a platform for applications.

Litecoin’s longevity and simplicity are its calling cards: it has run reliably for well over a decade and is widely accepted by payment processors. The flip side is that it offers little that is novel today, and it competes with faster, cheaper networks and stablecoins for the payments use case. LTC is a volatile, high-risk asset whose story is stability and payments rather than innovation.

First Light on Litecoin (LTC)
What’s happening

Litecoin is a long-running, proof-of-work payments coin — faster blocks and lower fees than Bitcoin, with an 84 million supply cap. It is widely accepted by payment processors.

Why it matters

Litecoin’s strengths are age, reliability and simplicity; its challenge is relevance in a world of faster chains and stablecoins built for payments. The watch-item is whether "digital silver" keeps a durable niche. Proven but not novel. LTC is volatile and high-risk.
